두 가지 과학 소설 공모전을 통해 단편 소설을 모집합니다.
일반 과학 소설 부문인 “투모로우 프라이즈(The Tomorrow Prize)”와 환경 문제에 대한 긍정적인 해결책을 제시하는 생태 테마 과학 소설 부문인 “그린 페더 어워드(The Green Feather Award)”입니다.
인공지능의 발전부터 디스토피아 사회의 위협까지, 요즘 세상은 현실보다 과학 소설처럼 느껴질 때가 많습니다. 과학 소설 장르는 우리에게 고유한 관점을 표현하고 인류가 직면한 가장 큰 사회적, 환경적 문제에 대한 해결책을 상상할 수 있도록 해줍니다.
바로 이러한 이유로 오메가 SF 프로젝트는 청소년 작가들이 “만약에…?”라는 질문을 던지도록 장려합니다.
만약에… 고등학교가 가상 현실 시뮬레이션으로 대체된다면?
만약에… 녹아내리는 빙하 속에서 시간이 멈춘 고대 외계 유물이 발견된다면?
만약에… 인류가 수중 생활에 적응하여 바다 한가운데에 사회를 건설한다면?
만약에… 당신의 프롬 파트너가 편향된 알고리즘에 의해 결정된다면?
학생들은 상상력을 마음껏 펼쳐야 합니다!
과학 소설은 모든 종류의 과학적 성과를 바탕으로 새로운 세계를 탐험할 수 있도록 해줍니다. 기술, 우주 탐사, 환경 과학, 생물학, 인간 심리학, 사회학 또는 시간 여행의 양자 물리학 등 어떤 분야에 관심이 있든, 모든 과학 분야는 과학 소설 단편의 영감이 될 수 있습니다.
매년 수상자에게 최대 250달러의 상금과 L.A. Parent 잡지 게재, 그리고 시상식에서 유명 인사들이 작품을 낭독하는 특별한 기회를 제공한다고 합니다.
학생들은 자신의 이야기가 무대 위에서 생생하게 펼쳐지는 모습을 직접 볼 수 있습니다!

Omega Sci-Fi Project’s Science-fiction writing contest
Do you have a high schooler who loves to write? We want to read their short stories! Encourage them to enter Omega Sci-Fi Project’s science-fiction writing contests by Feb.13 for a chance to win!
We’re seeking sci-fi short stories for our two writing contests: The Tomorrow Prize (for general science fiction) and The Green Feather Award (for eco-themed sci-fi that imagines positive solutions to environmental challenges).
From the rise of artificial intelligence to the threat of a dystopian society, life these days can feel more like science fiction than reality. The science-fiction genre empowers us to express our unique perspectives and imagine solutions to humanity’s greatest social and environmental challenges.
That’s why Omega Sci-Fi Project encourages teen writers to ask: “What if?”
What if… high school was replaced by a virtual-reality simulation?
What if… the melting ice caps revealed an ancient alien artifact frozen in time?
What if… humans evolved to live underwater and built a society in the middle of the ocean?
What if…your prom date was determined by a biased algorithm?
Students should allow their imaginations to run wild! Science fiction expands upon current scientific achievements of all kinds, inventing new worlds to explore. Whether they’re interested in technology, space exploration, environmental science, biology, human psychology, sociology or the quantum physics of time travel, any type of science can be inspiration for a sci-fi short story.
Every year, we recognize our contest winners with cash prizes up to $250, publication in L.A. Parent magazine and a dramatic reading by celebrity guests at our culminating event, where students get to see their stories come to life on stage!
Our contests are 100% free to enter! Eligible stories should follow these guidelines:

Science fiction (Not fantasy! Not sure what the difference is? Reach out!)

Between 500 and 1,500 words in length

Fully original work (No AI or fanfiction)

Engage with social and scientific issues

Provide a hopeful perspective on environmental issues (Green Feather Award only)
