멕시코에서 샌디에이고가는 마약 터널
멕시코 국경과 미국 남부의 한 도시를 연결하는 것으로 보이는 거대한 “마약 터널”이 발견되었습니다.
현지 시간으로 1일, 뉴욕 포스트와 라틴 타임스는 멕시코 연방 당국이 바하 캘리포니아 티후아나 국경에 인접한 누에바 티후아나 지역에서 지하 6.3미터에 건설된 265미터 길이의 터널을 발견했다고 보도했습니다.
그날 멕시코 법무장관실(FGR)의 X 계정에 공개된 영상에는 조명 및 환기 시스템이 장착된 터널을 통과하는 연방 수사관들이 전자 슬라이딩 메커니즘을 사용하여 이동하는 모습이 담겨 있습니다.
언론 매체들은 이 터널이 최근 몇 년 동안 발견된 가장 큰 국경을 넘는 터널 중 하나라고 보도했습니다.
FGR에 따르면, 이 터널은 지난달 30일(현지 시간) 멕시코 해군의 지원을 받아 연방 당국이 티후아나의 한 건물을 급습하던 중 발견되었습니다.
당국은 이 시설이 무기, 폭발물, 불법 마약의 저장 및 밀매를 위한 허브로 사용되었을 가능성이 높다고 보고 있습니다. 현재 미국-멕시코 국경 양쪽의 경찰이 지하 터널을 조사하고 있습니다.

미국 국토안보수사국(HSI)은 성명을 통해 티후아나와 샌디에이고의 주요 국경 교차로인 오타이 메사 인근에 위치한 지하 터널에 대한 조사에 특수 요원들이 참여하고 있다고 확인했습니다.
A massive “drug tunnel,” likely connecting the Mexican border to a city in the southern United States, has been discovered.
On the 1st (local time), the New York Post and Latin Times reported that Mexican federal authorities discovered a 265-meter-long tunnel, built 6.3 meters underground, in the Nueva Tijuana neighborhood—an area adjacent to the border in Tijuana, Baja California.
Footage released that day on the X account of the Mexican Attorney General’s Office (FGR) shows federal investigators moving through the tunnel—which is equipped with lighting and ventilation systems—using an electronic sliding mechanism.
Media outlets reported that this tunnel is among the largest cross-border tunnels discovered in recent years.
According to the FGR, the tunnel was discovered on the 30th of last month (local time) during a raid on a building in Tijuana conducted by federal authorities with the support of the Mexican Navy.
Authorities believe the facility was likely used as a hub for the storage and trafficking of weapons, explosives, and illicit drugs. Police from both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border are currently investigating the underground tunnel.
The FGR stated, “There is a high probability that this tunnel connects to a street in San Diego, in southern California.”
U.S. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) confirmed in a statement that special agents are participating in an investigation regarding the underground tunnel located near Otay Mesa, a major border crossing between Tijuana and San Diego.
