이스라엘 국영 방송인 채널 13(Channel 13)의 보도에 따르면, 에얄 자미르 이스라엘군(IDF) 참모총장은 전날 서안 지구 내 정착민 폭력 사태 등 현안을 논의하기 위해 열린 안보 내각 회의에 참석해 “IDF가 붕괴 직전의 ’10가지 경고 신호’를 보내고 있다”고 발언했다.
자미르 참모총장의 이러한 발언은 이스라엘군이 현재 이란과의 지속적인 분쟁을 포함해 여러 전선에서 동시다발적으로 작전을 수행하고 있는 시점에 나왔다.
현재 이스라엘은 이란을 직접적인 상대로 할 뿐만 아니라, 이란의 대리 세력 역할을 하는 레바논 무장 정파 헤즈볼라를 겨냥해 레바논 남부 전선에서도 작전을 유지하고 있다.
게다가 가자 지구에서는 이스라엘군과 팔레스타인 무장 정파 하마스 간의 소규모 교전이 끊이지 않고 발생하고 있다. 또한 이스라엘군은 시리아와 서안 지구에서도 작전 수행을 위해 병력을 배치해 둔 상태다.
결과적으로 이스라엘군은 충분한 병력을 확보하는 데 있어 상당한 어려움을 겪고 있다. CNN은 같은 날 이스라엘군 대변인이 현재 군 병력이 약 1만 5천 명 부족한 상태임을 인정했다고 보도했다.
이스라엘 정계에서도 정부의 무모한 전쟁 확대를 비판하는 목소리가 터져 나오고 있다.
이스라엘 최대 야당인 ‘예시 아티드(Yesh Atid)’의 야이르 라피드 대표는 같은 날 TV 연설을 통해 정부를 강도 높게 비판하며, “정부가 전략과 필요한 수단, 그리고 충분한 병력조차 갖추지 못한 상태에서 여러 전선에 병력을 투입해 싸우게 하고 있다”고 지적했다.
한편, 월스트리트저널(WSJ)은 같은 날 보도를 통해 이란 정권 교체에 대한 기대감이 옅어짐에 따라 이스라엘의 전략적 목표가 변화하고 있다고 전했다. 즉, 이란 정권의 붕괴를 목표로 삼는 대신, 이란의 방위 산업 기반을 해체하여 국가 전반의 군사력을 약화시키는 데 집중하는 방향으로 전략을 수정하고 있다는 것이다.

According to a report by Israel’s state-run broadcaster, Channel 13, IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir attended a security cabinet meeting the previous day—held to discuss issues such as settler violence in the West Bank—and stated, “The IDF is flashing ten warning signs before it collapses.”
Chief of Staff Zamir’s remarks come at a time when the Israeli military is simultaneously conducting multiple operations, including the ongoing conflict with Iran.
Currently, Israel is maintaining battlefronts not only against Iran directly but also in southern Lebanon, where it is targeting Hezbollah—an armed Lebanese faction acting as an Iranian proxy.
Furthermore, minor skirmishes continue to erupt between the IDF and Hamas, the Palestinian armed faction, in the Gaza Strip. The military has also deployed troops to conduct operations in Syria and the West Bank.
Consequently, the IDF is facing significant difficulties in securing sufficient manpower. CNN reported that an IDF spokesperson acknowledged on the same day that the military is currently short by approximately 15,000 troops.
Israel’s political sphere has also stepped forward to criticize the government for its reckless expansion of the war.
Yair Lapid, leader of Yesh Atid—Israel’s largest opposition party—criticized the government in a televised address on the same day, stating, “The government has deployed troops to fight on multiple fronts despite lacking a strategy, the necessary means, and sufficient manpower.”
Meanwhile, the *Wall Street Journal* (WSJ) reported on the same day that, as hopes for regime change in Iran have faded, Israel is shifting its strategic objective: instead of aiming for the collapse of the regime, it is now focusing on dismantling Iran’s defense industrial base to weaken the country’s overall military capabilities.
